Very disappointed. Weak script and wooden acting. No nuanced performances to be seen. Certainly nothing like the original "Belgravia".

Could have been a lot better without the tedious use of the f word (no modern drama can be scripted without it) and the slowest of direction. A waste of acting talent and viewer's patience.

I recently revisited this excellent series and again enjoyed the interlinking stories of WW2 village life with the WI at its centre. A special mention of Fenella Woolgar for beautifully understated acting and Claire Rushbrook's portrayal of a battered wife trapped by domestic conventions of the times. A frustratingly cliffhanger ending of series 2 the only disappointment.

Surely those praising this series cannot have seen Gwyneth Paltrow's infinitely superior depiction of Austen's heroine in the film version. Romola Garai is miscast, giving a brittle performance.The seasoned actors do a little better although hampered by a stilted and banal script. Very disappointing for this Austen fan.

Superb! A well written adaptation of Mrs Gaskell's stories of Victorian society brought to us by a stellar cast. I've seen both Cranford and Return to Cranford many times over the years ... tv period drama at its best.
