My head still hurts. And I still feel really sorry for Cyrus. Even though it's been five days since I actually read it.
This is the best book EVER.
And my fav books changes a lot, but I love this series so much.
And I'm glad I completely forgot about it until like two weeks ago, as now #4 and #5 are out!
And I got this when my library finally opened back up for people to go in, for the first time since . . . well . . . COVID-19.
This series is now for sure definitely one of my favorite series ever.
I have specific rules for what can get on that list.
1. There has to be some kind of betrayal. Any kind, but as of this book . . . this series has the best betrayal I've ever seen.
2. There has to be some kind of battle at the end. It cannot be the two sides talking it out. It has to be a battle, and no, I've not read book 5 yet, but surely there's some kind of battle between the Oppenheimer school kids (including Fort and Rachel) and the Old Ones & possibly Damian.
3. Preferably, the bad guy has to die. Either that, or the author has to make them my favorite character in the whole series. Or both.
4. The author's writing and characterization and plotting have to be good. And this is all up to the author. No long boring scenes where the more there are the more the reader wants to give up, and then right when they're about to there's an interesting point. And then it goes back to boringness. And so on.
5. If you switched it to the main antagonist's POV, they would see themselves as the hero. (Not necessarily the protagonist as the villain, but they would have to see themselves as the hero.)
And the Revenge of Magic series definitely has all of that. There is for sure a betrayal (and I think he might betray the Old Ones . . .), again, definitely battles at the climaxes' of pretty much all the books, the antagonist is for sure my favorite (Cyrus is awesome), the style/ characterization/ plot is great, and Cyrus would see himself as the hero if it was switched around.
