Technically masterful for its time, and boasting a number of extras that would be impressive even by today's standards, the movie is eye candy. The problem lies with the plot, which takes a very disappointing approach to both of its main driving points: 1) the gap between the rich and the poor, which it tries to blame on simple misunderstandings rather than a true division. 2)The "mechanical-man", (the automaton from the poster), which acts more like an evil clone from a Saturday morning cartoon rather than a symbolic manifestation of industrialism's turning of the average workrer into a mindless puppet. There were a lot of themes that failed to be explored properly, with the director clearly undecided on what genre he wants the movie to be.
Also there is a very unsexy robot stripper.
