Patrice manages to put me, an aging white male, into the shoes of a sensitive little black girl in a totally non-threatening way. I lived in Anchorage before, during and after, she grew up there. While I did not know her personally, our lives have intertwined in a host of ways. Her book was so difficult to put down, it cost me most of a good night’s sleep.
The book was published in 2018 before the COVID-19 crisis and simultaneous racial protests, but the themes Patrice explores are as current as this morning’s headlines. This book is an important and even better, a good read.
