A film which says everything about the film technology of the age whilst losing sight of the human story of its period. In years to come we shall look back in anger at this scattergun soup-mix of fantastic camera and editing equipment in film school lectures of “how not to do it”! What a waste of money! The 1993 version, whilst not perfect, did at least develop all the characters. The 2021 version fails spectacularly. This film left me in tears! Tears of despair! I can only imagine what miriad wonderful films could have been made if they’d split the budget into 20 and given it to producers and directors of talent!
