'This movie is a gift from Adi'
Yash Chopra
It was the summer of 2012 I had just got a new tablet with a 3G internet connection for the first time and I opened youtube and the first thing that I watched was a trailer of JTHJ. I was breath taken by the visuals and the music and the poetry that SRK recited in the background back then and till now give me goosebumps. Whenever i hear 'teri aakhon ki namkeen mastiya..... i just close my eyes and go in a trance.
I watched Jab Tak Hai Jaan in 2012 and I am writing this review in 2021.9 years went by but still, every scene of JTHJ is clear and vivid in my memory. I have done countless rewatching of JHTJ till now.
I can write volumes on JHTJ's impact and beauty but I'll try to summarise my love for this movie and the masters who made it.
JHTJ is a story about love, friendship, and faith in modern times. It provides a subtle commentary on the gap between different economic classes, blind faith in customs, and casual relationships but these themes are hard to identify because of the brilliant writing Adi Chopra has done.
With the characters of Samar(srk), Meera(Katrina), and Akira(Anushka) you get such a range of personalities and contradicting nature of people that the chemistry between all these characters comes out quite interesting. I will not tell you the story because then its no fun to watch the movie.
The direction in this movie is top-notch. JHTJ became Yash Chopra's last movie but he gave it his all and made a timeless classic for all ages.
Cinematography is again exquisite. Whether you take Ladakh, London or Kashmir all these places' aesthetic appeal is enhanced manifold by the cinematography.
Now music.. And boy oh boy.. JHTJ has one of the best music in terms of vocals, lyrics and instrumentals etc. everything. All songs of JHTJ are still fresh pop culture because Yash Chopra's romance promises you two thing great visuals and great music which JHTJ delivered as promised.
People often ignore it but the Art direction of JHTJ is simple and beautiful. My dream room is the basement space Samar lived in.
SRK as always bought out one of his best performances and damn the way he looked in JTHJ is just fabulous. Katrina's casting was spot on and she portrayed her character pretty well too. Anushka performance was not great but decent. Rishi and Neetu kapoor's cameo is one of the highlights of JTHJ.
After Veer Zaara yash chopra made jab tak hai jaan is enough to say how good he was and his work is.
