As an educator and parent, I must register my shock that Hello Rock" has been highly recommended. I purchased this seemingly innocent and positive story for my three-year-old nephew after having read the first 10 pages. Little did I know that on page 20, there is a racist stereotype depicting a ‘scary' Indigenous man with the boy saying to a rock: “If you were bigger, I could get behind you and hide from Indians". What a shame to see this content impacting the young minds of Canadian readers. In a time of Truth and Reconciliation, this book is unacceptable and runs counter to the need to repair relations.
