Big things that made it worse than Sun Moon and previous games.
- Too much handholding. Your practically directed to your next junction.
- Too easy. They made expshare permanent
- No character arc. Rival lacks depth and is essentially hau 2.0.
- Plot has no build up and the small antagonists serve no real purpose. The final villain reveal ends up having nothing to do with everything the hero encounters.
- Every struggle in pokemon gen 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 which made those games very fond to reflect from is essentially sugar coated in this generation.
A] You have dynamax to beat critical NPC's
B] You're gifted very powerful pokemon
C] The hero is pampered about being capable rather than embarking on the traditional hero's journey to discover that he/she is capable.
D] No puzzles, no detours, no side quests, gym battles are not challenging.
- Post game plot also makes no sense. Essentially it's a silly gimic designed to make children ages 5 under laugh. However for the vast majority, it's simply unintelligent and cheap.
There are some pros:
- Pokemon design is spot on [Corviknight, Wooloo are some of my favorites]
- Wild area in concept is nice however it feels very confusing to offer it early in the game, probably should have offered it after a set of gyms and add the delta or penultimate sequence to plot there. Essentially it becomes a cheat to grind and overlevel early.
