‘Seperated by distance, connected by fate’
I planned to watch this movie right after seeing its trailer. I have never been this fast for a movie, but I was totally not mentally prepared for this movie. This trailer is a sugar coated version of it. If you’re thinking of watching the movie after watching its trailer, you better embrace yourselves, for you are about to embark on an emotional rollercoaster that you’re so not ready to handle.
Despite me almost never writing reviews for shows or movies, even if they were my favorites/ones I loved. This one strikes me differently. Somehow, these songs and this movie bring me great peace and anxiety, joy and huge emptiness. I just know that I love this movie.
“Two seemingly ordinary people of adolescence, divided by the unforgiving yet intertwined threads of time, but yet are driven forward by a slow yet developed love for one another and the resolve to change history itself.”
While the plot had its ups and downs (little nit-picks and mainly ups) here and there, the music, animation, and the mere execution of the movie, in my opinion, makes up for it in its entirety. Despite its supernatural elements, “Your Name.” Exhibited a large amount of humanity and the interactions and thoughts between characters felt real, given the sentiment and each individual’s longing, relishing us with a sense of genuineness and realism amidst the otherworldly plot.
The animation is one of the best I’ve seen as an anime enjoyer, so I can assure you that the graphics go above and beyond than even what some animation films provide today.
The music also tugged several chords in my heart and to be frank, the ending always gets me because of it’s music choice and orchestration. Yet, there are many more songs of significance like “Zenzenzense” or “Sparkle” to be mentioned. These songs gave me chills in the spine. Every second of the song is immaculate. Though, you should hear them yourself if you ever watch the movie.
The storytelling within “Your Name.”, after taking a step back, opened my eyes to the magnificent elegance it portrayed to viewers like me. There are some people that don’t understand how people like this movie so much: the reason is ‘emotions’. If you don’t feel anything, I can understand why you didn’t like it. In fact, the movie doesn’t have that much to offer other than that. Sure animations are great, you can make a review out of those things, but you can’t “review” emotions: you either feel it or don’t.
Hope I embellish my best on this review. I urge that everyone should at least watch this movie once, both for the story and for the mere experience of watching what I think, is a masterpiece in today’s world of film animation. Good day<3
