I would not recommend this to any ATLA fan as it is a huge let down. after hardly 2 and half episodes i had enough. part of the appeal to the orginal show in my opinion is how carefully orchestrated the characters and their development are, how new characters and relationships come in gradually, but only add to the plot and big picture. its a journey to watch, there’s a story there that draws you in to make you feel connected to the core characters and story.
This new series totally missed the mark here. Nearly 3 episodes in and half the plot has already been revealed??? everything feels rushed, and careless. There’s hardly any exposition or build up just everything kind of thrown in your face at once, hard to keep up and digest or feel a sense of anticipation for what’s to come. I’m also not very pleased with how the core 3 have been portrayed. Sokka has absolutely no personality, nor sexist attitude (sounds weird to say i know) but i believe is a huge blow and disadvantage to his character arc. Kataras journey in learning water ending has no depth or excitement, just boom she picked it up and figured it out swiftly. Aang lacks his child-like wonder/quirkiness he had in the beginning episodes of the orginal show just straight to “im the avatar i have a responsibility” mindset.
I could go more in depth and nitpick severaaalll other things but i don’t want to write a 5 page essay in the reviews.
In summary: very disappointed as i was excited for this. but i couldn’t even make it past 3 episodes. i feel most other fans of the orginal would agree. very rushed, lacks depth and buildup almost other things. Netflix has quite the habit of taking already beautifully crafted masterpieces and spitting on them and this is just another instance of that.
