I was lucky enough to get this book on tape and listened to it as I travelled around the UK. It brought home to me the true horror of the Killing Fields and the terrible things that happened to this incredible man. Losing his wife in front of him when he knew as a surgeon he could save her but knowing the Communists would kill him, her their children and everyone else in the hut as they hated intellectuals and he was having to say he was a taxi driver to survive.
My wife joined me one day when I was travelling and listening to this moving story and she ended up in tears. Having suffered unbelievable abuse and finally getting to safety he was taken to the USA as a doctor where he was killed in a mugging. So very very sad.
