Unpopular opinion I guess, but I did not enjoy this book. Yes I finished it, but only because I wanted to give it a fair shake.
My issues with the book: SPOILERS
The child abuse (physical, not sexual) scenes were horrifically graphic and upsetting. I found myself skipping sections because I just couldn’t bring myself to digest the details of abuse.
The romance was very rushed, and neither character was developed well enough for us to really care for them.
Lowen’s “baggage” she hints at is simply that she is a sleep walker and had a weird relationship with her mom.
Plot holes. If the manuscript was fake, then after Jeremy read it he would have realized that bits weren’t true. (Ex: if Verity really didn’t really only ever talk about one twin and ignore the other, wouldn’t Jeremy realize that was faked?)
“You can’t fake brain scans” -direct quote, but she was literally faking it? So I’m confused?
Also the ending…why did Jeremy not finish off killing verity if he went through such great lengths to attempt to? Why continue to care for a disabled woman who you attempted to murder?
Several more plot holes but I will leave it at that. Not a very well thought out book. If you are looking for graphic abuse scenes, lots of sex, and a twist or two…go for it.
