Compared to the many books already written on this disaster, this HBO production is historically inaccurate and poorly written. It completely omits the most dramatic and gripping aspect of the disaster- the explosion of the nuclear reactor itself and the events that led up to it. One of the best explanations is the book “Midnight in Chernobyl” , which provides the minute by minute detail of the actions of the personnel in the reactor control room prior,during,and after the complete destruction of the nuclear reactor. I have only seen the first two episodes of this HBO miniseries, but the shortcuts it has taken have already ruined the true understanding of the causes behind this monumental disaster that contributed to the downfall of the USSR.
