"Startup" had a lot of buzz surrounding it, and while I can see the appeal of its entrepreneurial setting and youthful energy, it ultimately fell flat for me. I'm giving it a generous 2 stars.
The premise, focusing on young people building their own tech companies, had potential. However, the execution felt contrived and often relied on tired K-drama tropes.
The love triangle was predictable and, frankly, quite frustrating. I found myself more invested in the side characters' stories especially han ji peyong and grandma than the central romance, which felt forced and lacked genuine chemistry. Han ji peyong should have ended up with dal mi, it doesn't do justice with his character. In jae should have given more screen time.
While the acting was decent, and the visuals were polished, the plot itself was riddled with inconsistencies and convenient plot devices. The "startup" world felt more like a glamorous backdrop than a realistic portrayal. The struggles and triumphs of these young entrepreneurs felt superficial, and the constant back-and-forth between the leads became tiresome.
I also found the pacing to be uneven. The drama spent too much time on certain plot points while rushing through others that could have been more impactful. The emotional beats often felt unearned, and I struggled to connect with the characters on a deeper level.
Overall, "Startup" was a disappointment. It had the potential to be a fresh and inspiring drama, but it ultimately succumbed to predictable clichés and shallow storytelling. While it might appeal to viewers looking for lighthearted entertainment, those seeking a more nuanced and engaging story about the startup world will likely be left wanting more.
