The acting was wonderful. Emma Stone played a woman gone mad, not an outlandish over-the-top character that a person would expect when a cartoon character walks into real life cinema. IE: Johnny Depp, Robert Downey Jr or Jim Carey. The role of the Baroness, Emma Thompson, accomplished what was needed, a character more believably evil than Cruella. There's little Disney music, it seems they bought every iconic 60's and 70's rock song to bring in the Boomer audience. I have a feeling Disney is going to push hard in selling the soundtrack as a seperate product.
The plot is mysterious and keeps one foot in the 60's cartoon classic.
Again a very difficult feet. The fashion industry portayed in the film is nuanced and historically correct.
Ultimately what will set this as a great Disney film is Emma Stone's grand theatrical performance and the chemistry with Emma Thompson. Emma Stone's performance is of the same grandeur you would see in Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker. There's very few forced tearful moments where a minor key is played and someone gives a sweet speech, there are no sucker punches. Emma Stone uses every part of her being to portray pain as sublime.
I will be really surprised if this film doesn't recieve multiple awards at every ceremony next year.
