I knew Bob Mitchum. Met him through his son James. Jim, Steve Rowland and I all lived together in the Hollywood Hills in the early 60's. Bob would come up to the house and we would all sit around with drinks and he would tell stories of the old days in Hollywood. Spent a couple of Thanksgivings up at his home in Santa Barbara, with Jim and the family. Bob always comes to mind when Steve and I are working on our new TV series, HOLLYWOOD HEAT. The real story of Hollywood in the golden age of studios, the girls, the Mob. The hat, trench coat, cigarette, deep booming voice, staring out of the rain drenched window in a cheap downtown LA hotel in "Farewell My Lovely". The haunting music of a long past era. We could sure use the likes of Robert Mitchum and John Wayne today - real men.
