It just felt like another disappointing YA novel adaptation. It relies upon a number of outdated bubblegum-sweet tropes and it’s more than fair share of forced quirkiness just to help transition between choppy, unfocused scenes and and unenjoyable cliches. The performances of both Graham Verchere (The Good Doctor) and Grace VanderWaal (her on-screen debut) were as successful as can be expected from such lackadaisical writing. Recognisable names such as Giancarlo Esposito and Karan Brar do little in the name of saving this picture and I believe that this should be seen as a warning to Disney+ as they work out exactly what audiences are looking for.
