I was very disappointed on a number of scores. Depictions of Amish life were inaccurate. Old Order Amish, the largest category, do differ somewhat from church district to church district, but have services in homes and do not display crosses. Rungspringa relatively rare. Meidung, the shunning, also is not practiced in many church districts and I've never heard of it being declared by a father rather than by the church district authorities. While I was glad that the baby wasn't killed, the subject of child welfare and marriage of the biological parents didn't come up. This could have been a meaningful film with good values. Sadly, it was not. It's interesting that relatively few young people leave the Amish and their total population is rapidly growing. According to Elizabethtown College, there were about 373,620 in June of 2022, with growth of over 12,000 since the prior year.
