Lived not in WV back then, but in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia
between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny mountains. This film is wonderful nostalgia just in the settings and scenery itself, but also captures perfectly the awe of looking up in a night sky (stars much more visible then), and seeing a satellite go by !! This was back when you could walk down a street on a summer night and you could hear a TV set from every house (under oak and maple trees), because front doors were left open and only the screen doors were closed. Unless you lived in the late 50's, early 60's, you are blase to this element in the film. We have seen EVERYTHING today, either in the news or a Hollywood film.
We used to watch EVERY rocket launch on TV back then, from Alan Shepherd to John Glenn to Walter Schirra to Neil Armstrong.
This movie has a terrific script, the characters quite realistic, and the actors really deliver.
