While watching "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" it occurs to me that the producers and writers are doing a period "themed" piece but it just isn't terribly accurate. The Cursing and colors and characters etc - are all exaggerated and conveniently modernized for the sake of story telling. There is language (words, idioms, grammar) used that was not invented or not commonly used in 1960. Shy Baldwin and his band have also made that crystal clear. Shy is a bit of an amalgam of several performers. I can suspend disbelief for all of that.
Then there's the "chick bass player" as an homage to Carol Kaye. But these people doing the show have taken aesthetics to a new low with their portrayal of Carol. There are some stage settings where she plays lefty and some where she plays righty and there just is not, to my knowledge, any switch-hitting guitarist. Not one. They are so concerned with presenting a pretty picture that certain aspects of reality go out the window altogether. To seat her in the band more comfortably, they switch her up as a left handed or a right handed player. Kinda broke the dream...
