{I don't review movies, so, forgive the lack of a flowery vocabulary, grammar and over articulated points}
The movie was boring. Not so boring that it couldn't be finished, but boring enough that you wish you could get the time back. It was also painfully predictable. Any twist that the movie hoped to take could be felt and predicted in the first 30-40min. I essentially wrote the last hour of the film in my mind then watched it unfold thus so. There are those who would defend the film saying it was too "high brow" for the casual film watcher, but I think that's giving it too much credit. It's clear what the film is saying. Just because the point it makes is important, doesn't mean the film isn't boring. Much like the film "the lobster" with Colin Farrell; it tries too hard. The actors, I feel, did the best with what they were given. Jesse Eisenburg plays the character he pretty much always plays. The nervous, twitchy, soft spoken push over with no self confidence and a heart too soft for this world and he plays it well. Imogen Poots was the star of this movie. If only she'd gotten more screen time. Alessandro Nivola does a wonderful job portraying whatever the director thinks toxic masculinity is which seems to somehow mirror "mean girl" behavior where every off hand remark is passive, where as real toxic masculinity is aggressive. My point is, the film isn't the worst ever written, but it isn't good. I'd advise against anyone watching it, but if you think you want to, like I did, then you probably will. Just be willing to lose 1 hour and 45 minutes for the effort.
