super corny acting. plot gimmick/trope has been used plenty of times and done much better. Examples: Back to the future DUH!, david cronenburg's The Dead Zone, and Source Code directed by duncan jones. while it came out after, i'd argue its more serious toned sci-fi driven approach to this trope gave it a fresh spin.
