The Western, that's The Searchers. John Ford and Duke create what is one of the most beautiful Films ever shot and best overall ever made, in what was Duke's favorite role played, Ethan Edwards. A role not your typical Duke, a violent, cruel, cynical, and racist even for the 1950's man who will go to any length to "rescue" his niece. As we follow our main characters and watch their evolution, or devolution, we meet a Duke who cuts out eyes, a Duke who is as gritty and gruesome as the world he inhabits. We see the growth of our films hero Paulie (Not Duke) from boy to man and the conflict between Ethan and Paulie leading to the films culmination, which as the film closes is as good, appropriate, satisfying, and beautiful ending as has ever filmed. This film is a cinematography masterpiece, very few films are as beautiful as The Searchers, shot for the most part in monument valley and brought to the screen in iconic and breathtaking shots. John Ford unleashes his film making genius all over the screen, Duke gives the performance of his career, in a story that by its end leaves you satisfied, like need a cigarette ;) kinda satisfied.
