Minecraft Dungeons is an awesome game, and you can definitely get a good amount of hours out of it. Similar to Minecraft itself, Dungeons is very easy to learn, but can be played in infinite different ways. It's very good for people new to the genre, like myself and most minecraft fans who decided to pick it up. One of the things the game does best is the way it encourages experimenting with different weapons, armor, artifacts, and enchantments. Based on this experimentation, you'll gain a preference of different weapons and such, and your preference depends on your play style, whether you tend to hang back and shoot, charge through and hack and slash, or use your artifacts to decimate your enemies. And speaking of enemies, you tend to find different tactics work best on different enemies. With skeletons, I find you can shoot or slash them, but creepers are much better taken out with your bow, and zombies make more sense to be taken care of with your trusty sword (or glaive, or mace, or knife, or whatever). The gameplay is pretty good, but my only complaint is how unbalanced the combat is. You'll be very casually hack-and-slashing, when suddenly you get hit with a huge difficulty spike. This isn't so bad in the other levels, but the last level really got on my nerves. I tried four times to beat it, and was sent back to base frustrated every single time. I haven't picked the game back up since, and it really annoyed me, especially because I was extremely close to the level's exit. I might revisit this game, since I don't have many other games to play, but I'm still just feeling hopeless as to ever beating that level. I do still think the game's worth the twenty bucks, but I don't think the DLCs or hero pass/hero edition would be worth it until they introduce cross platform, and I can get a taste of multiplayer. I will update my review when I do play with friends.
