Stunningly shot, well acted, and those are the only two positives I can say about the movie. This is possibly the first movie where I have actively wished I had to go to the bathroom so I would have an excuse to skip some of the movie (I didn't so I stayed there the whole time). It breaks its own rules, it actively insults it's own legacy, it forgets to develop any of the stories it brings in. I went in hoping to see something fun and kinda dumb that would let me escape to the universe I grew up loving. Instead I found myself baffled and bored out of my mind. Not the worst Star Wars movie. Attack of the Clones and the Holiday Special are worse. But that's a pretty low bar. Will probably end up being the only Star Wars movie I've only watched once.

Oh man the special effects are good. The monster fights are epic, the destruction glorious. But the plot is awful, and waaaay too long. I was enjoying the second major kaiju fight of the movie when I realized I was starting to get bored. And I was only at the halfway mark! Maybe it would have worked if the movie hadn't taken itself so bloody seriously, but throughout the movie I went from giddy excitement at the glorious and rediculous magesty of it all to bored out of my mind and praying they wouldn't drag the fight out any longer. Unless you're set on seeing the monsters on the big screen wait till it's on Netflix and watch it with beers and buddies so you at least make fun of it the whole time. And even then you'd better already be a big Godzilla fan. Everyone else avoid this movie.
