I have watched this show for at least 25 years every single Sunday and in general LOVE IT, but as of late(January 2020) I have noticed the lack of immediate attention to some issues concerning the Black American world.
Starting with never discussing the death of Kobe Bryant or his life or contribution to the world, to not having Jane Pauley interview people of color., unless you're talking about cleaning!! As a Black woman of a certain age, there is an expectation of a show of this caliber to "push" themselves a bit!!!
I want you to know that I don't think there are great stories being told on this show, but I will say I'm often disappointed lately with your timeliness on subjects concerning the Black community or Black greats who have passed.
The straw that broke the camels back, was the commentary on"Karen"
"Karen" is a name of usually middle-aged white women, who fill compelled to call the police on regular behavior of Black men, women, children and families.
These "Karens" know when they either threaten or call the police what could happen to these Black, men, women, children, or families, but this commentator (white lady) made sure to let us know that "social justice" agitators in all of "their good intentions" were getting"karens" threats, their families threats and job lose, should be mindful of what "they" are doing. UGH!!! more "white privilege" at it's finest.
You are losing a fan favorite with this continued disregard for Black Lives and Life.
Here are some suggestions;
Bring in some guest host(or a new one) that are Black. (Gayle King)
2. Add more Black on-camera personalities.
3.Be mindful of your Black audience when thinking about your story choices, and when there is a tragedy that affects our community.
4. In your memorials Black Lives and their contribution to our country matter and should be celebrated.
I look forward very quickly to your change and response to your Black audience.
Sincerely,
Tonda Adiansingh(mother of 3 Black sons and one Amazing Black husband)
