After feverishly reading this entire series and completely falling in love with Cass’ writing style, I have finally read the fifth book in her Selection series. I immediately loved the main character and enjoyed watching her grow. She is a strong female lead, and I appreciate that.
Without posting any spoilers, can I just say, WHAT THE HECK?!
The romance in The Heir made my heart race and made me want to stay up all night racing it. Then I spent a ridiculous amount of time reading through The Crown wondering where it all went. The romance went from crazy falling in love and “Oh my gosh!” to “Wait... what just happened?” in zero to sixty seconds. All the adorable and memorable things that make you fall in love with characters in The Heir and make you hope she’ll pick one of them disappear as The Crown page by page removes any of the romance that was present and replaced it with random feelings that basically came out of nowhere. The heart-racing excitement and romantic gestures all but lost. It is painfully practical and the ending left me feeling bewildered and honestly confused.
All and all, this is a wrap up of the series and I am glad I read the whole thing. Great books and well worth the read.
