I liked this film, would gladly give it a 7 out of 10 rating.
Lets go right into its 'challenges'
Found it hard to relate to why Adam was so cold/unfeeling towards a young girl who was obviously out of her depth, seeing as he was a dad and all.
Thought his initial instinct would be to look after her since she was around the same age as his daughter - this is where American/Hollywood beliefs/values come into play in a disappointing way.
It made sense, later that he was grieving his own daughters loss and was battling his own grief and guilt at her loss, but found it strange that he treated her as he did - but guess it was all about creating tension between the characters.
The language barrier was enough though - to cause sufficient misunderstandings between the characters in my books. There's the doubt and mistrust from her to him and he would have been easily frustrated that she doesn't get that he is only trying to help.
The ending - felt like there was room for an extra something - we all know about alien conspiracy theories, that some people believe that ancient tech, the pyramids and ancient civilizations were influenced by alien technology - I hoped, that somehow, this movie would touch/hint how the visitors presence helped mould/shape our world today.
It would have made for an interesting 'aha' moment in my books.
It kinda felt like there was a lot more potential based on the theme though - yet as is, it was a really good plot and the movie was engaging and entertaining and had heartfelt moments - the cave scene where we see his hands tremble as he cries was brilliantly depicted.
We truly need/crave more implied emotion than 'in your face' plots and story telling in 2023
