It's not fair to give this movie 1 star. It is shot fantastically and there are stylistic choices throughout that are visually great and clearly shows the director can do them. Having said that there's literally no reason for the majority of them and it messes with the tone throughout the movie as well.
Also, as well shot at this movie is the opposite is true for it's storytelling, script, and acting. the lead is the only one remotely decent acting wise but the story is just garbage so it's hard to blame the actors who probably didn't know if the camp was intended, unintended, or ham-fistedly shoved into a script that didn't need it.
If you go in expecting a good horror film you're going to be disappointed. If you go in expecting a transformers esk visual effect fest you might be less so. It's a pretty movie and that's really the best i can say for it. I really hope Wan doesn't go the same direction Shyamalan did because he clearly has talent and we all know he can do better
