The accents are all wrong! Mary spoke with a French accent,( as she was brought up there) not the accent of a common backstreet washerwoman. Left half way through, as being a Scot, it was more like a trip through the back streets of modern day Glasgow than an historical movie.

Good movie, but the musical score is really bad and would be better placed in a sci-fi movie. Very annoying! Excellent performances by Harleson and Costner. get rid of the score and it would be FAR better! Keep to the nice score (violins etc) and get rid of the "Twilight Zone" score.

Horrendous rendition of a great book. Although the old version originally done by BBC Scotland is poor quality on YouTube, it is far more accurate. This has no atmosphere or guts. Chrissie sounds more like a Glaswegian hussie than an Aberdonian Farm Girl at the turn of the last century. Sorry, but I'm being generous with one star.
