All... the characters... talk... like... this...
(skip to end for a short review)
Overall, it wasn't the worst thing I've ever witnessed, but I kind of hate it. The voice acting was distractingly bad and the animation lacked any sense of fluidity. While visually appealing, it obviously was too complex for the animators to give them proper movement with the budget they were given. I also think that they were skimping on frames to compensate for the ending but... why not just give them a bigger budget so that the show could at least claim that they had good animation? Confused.
The writing was bad. Period. I took nothing away from it and nothing resonated with me and it offered no deeper or profound meaning that will make me want to remember it but I do not think that was for lack of trying and probably just more about lack of skill, or time, or budget, or something. The characters are uncompelling and very underdeveloped. The plot was mediocre, the climax felt cheesy because they did the slo-mo rewind thing and it just took you out of the experience. I really wonder about all the decisions that went into this because this felt so haphazard. The sound track was not that good either. Lots of gore but more hilarious with shock value purposes than evoking and artful.
I enjoyed Castlevania a lot; this was a sad follow up that I sat through.
I'm surprised there are so many glowing reviews.
Tl;dr: Not the worst thing, but very, very far from the best. It at least kept me regretfully engaged to completion. I really liked Selene's character design; she's pretty and should have gotten a speaking part. (Women 🙏🏻) It had potential, but did not deliver. If you like anime, watch actual anime I guess.
Rip in pieces; better luck next time.
