Season 1 just didn't have anything redeemable in my view. The characters are all eminently hate-able. I don't like a single one of them. Half the story lines seem to be largely irrelevant to the main plot and repeat the classic scenario in Hollywood where women are just able to do everything without struggle (see Rey in Star Wars), which makes for boring stories. It is actually quite misogynistic to do this actually because it denies the real struggles that women face to instead over inflate them as if women have it easy compared to men.
Beside that, I find this is essentially trying so hard to be inclusive that it achieves the opposite and is instead cultural appropriation. It clearly imposes some views of the writers onto the work of another, erasing the original author's point of view instead trying to pretend there are no alternative views in the world. I'm absolutely fine with adaptations changing and removing content, so long as the original author's vision is kept. That obviously hasn't happened here and no one needs to read the books to tell.
