Great acting, great score and great cinematography but ultimately boring and pointless. The protagonists lack any meaningful characterisation, the villain lacks depth and there really isnt much of a story. The films supposed big twist has almost no build up, with everything just sort of happening. There is also the glaring problem that most horror films face; Its just not very scary. This film is genuinely annoying. The gross out humour is more gross than humerous. A lot of the jokes are lacking a punchline and when the jokes do land, the payoff is gratingly minimal. Spades performance was dull and wooden (reminiscent of Brie Larsons performance in the identity politics fueled mess that was Captain marvel, 2018). On the opposite end of the spectrum, the film provides Lauren lapkisses performance of missy. While the majority of the films laughs do come from her performance, her character is annoying and seriously devoid of any likeable qualitys. Both of the films protagonists fall completely flat. The writing is mediocrity at its finest. Another happy madison flop I'm afraid. Despite this, the film does provide some laughs.
