The movie has no build up or suspense resulting in it lacking a lot of horror elements that would make it eerie or scary. It's pacing feels more like an action movie which would be good if it actually had action scenes. The characters seem to just exist to move the plot along and have no personalities or characteristics that make them likable so as a result you never wish for any of them to survive or feel any connection to them. Visually the film is decent if not a little too dark. The shots aren't great either but the practical effects of the film really make up for this. I would recommend it just for the amazing effects if the movie wasn't such a horrible slog. The story is (although simple) a mess with the premise being a secret cult within this town suddenly makes the decision to be known and release their horrors. Why? Because bad story writing.
All in all structurally the movie is a mess, the characters are really unlikable and the only saving grace of the movie is the practical effects of the eldrichian horrors.
