What went wrong with The Last of Us 2:
- The differences between trailer and actual gameplay itself clearly false advertising.
- Extremely bad story plot.
- Actually confusing cut-scenes.
- Hoodini character development.
- It's like trying to compress 2 games into one and turned out to be an abomination.
- Whole open-world map wasted just by doing casual walkthrough (you can't explore it except outside few lore story and side missions).
My opinion:
I have to be fair, it was clear how much time and effort they put into this game, but sometimes pull is better than push. They tried to get all creative, basically allowing you to play as the "villain", to see the story from the other perspective, but cor blimey, did they miss the mark. Joel and Ellie's relationship was the MAIN reason fans fell in love with the first game. Then they try to force some type of emotions that we should feel for a brand new character? I felt like they did Joel no justice whatsoever.
Like imagine in RDR2, after Arthur dies, and you begin playing as John and starting your revenge then all of a sudden they make you play as Dutch or Micah to present another "perspective" to the story. That would have been a complete disservice to both Arthur and John. That's in essence what this game did.
