I had such high expectations for Bert Kreischer's #TheMACHINEmovie (love his standups) and was incredibly disappointed with the fake Russian accents and more so their weak attempts to speak it. Upon further looking into it, the movie was shot in Serbia, and most of the cast is Serbian, yet they're trying sooooo hard to portray USSR?? 🙄
As someone who was born in Soviet Union, it's incredibly frustrating to see America continously use our culture and language to their advantage when it's convenient for entertainment, but give absolutely zero credit or diligence to the actual people or country.
If you can't shoot in Russia, or hire Russian actors because of the conflict then, like, dont?? Maybe change your stupid story to a fictional place or shelf the project for a later date when you can actually provide authentic representation of the country instead of just profiting off of it and spreading harmful stereotypes?? Especially since you claim to have been there and made friends there but now all of a sudden can't hire a single Russian speaking actor?
