I will admit that I was a skeptic at first... it took me 3 episodes to really get into this anime, but by the 4th episode - I was hooked! It really is excellent - there were moments where it shocked me with how great the story was... the characterizations were awesome, it made you sad, shocked you, thrilled you and boggled the mind - all in one episode.... I HIGHLY recommend it.

Da 5 Bloods is brilliant. This film addresses the messiness of humans put into inhumane situations.... whether that be war, racism, the stigma of mental illness. It is emotional, tense, funny...very funny, unapologetically black in its perspective and yet easily accessible to anyone. What Spike Lee does so well in this film is remind us that while time moves forward, people can sometimes be stuck in the past and that affects their present... there is a quote from the movie that has stuck with me... "after you've been in a war, you understand it really never ends...whether it's in your mind or in reality." I have heard many people who were alive during the civil rights era or who have gone to fight in any number of wars say something very similar. I love the truth laced throughout this film, the black pride evident throughout the film and the humanity present from beginning to end. Thank you Spike Lee - thank you.

Just Another Film about a Zombie Apocalypse in well-done anime style.... Alternative title would be "All the things to NEVER DO during a Zombie Apocalypse - including what clothes not to wear, what boyfriend not to have, how subway stations are death traps, and the list of DON'Ts goes on and on. I was asked to watch this by someone who I thought was my friend, but I'm not so sure. This "prequel" to Train to Busan did not give you any origin about what made them zombies and did not seem to go out of its way to make any connections to the film. What was well done in Train to Busan and in this anime was the suspense around surviving the zombie attacks. This film is dark; and while the ending tried to show a bit of "justice".... it felt contrived and I was not impressed. I don't want to give anything away, so the best thing I can say is that if you want to see a well done anime about the zombie apocalypse with a few twists and turns... check this out.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND (but it's not for everyone): I cried tears of anger, anguish, and true sadness while watching this film. When I saw the pictures of that poor boy, I was speechless. I will be praying for Gabriel's brother and sister for the rest of my life. I cried because I realized that even though I have experienced some things that were not great in my life. I have never experienced anything close to the horror that Gabriel suffered. The film was well done, but part of me is in shock to the lack of any emotion of Isauro.... such an awful tale, but an impactful film.
