Long overdue review. Bought this game when it came out, first playthrough I didn’t care much about the story and just enjoyed the gunplay and hunting. Now on my second playthrough I’m following closely on the story. This game is just a masterpiece in virtually every regard. Characters that do and say and act like real people, we can relate to them, they’re complex and not one dimensional. TONS of things to do. Hunting, fishing, crazy amounts of side quests, over 100 story missions, train robberies, stagecoach robberies, cattle rustling, stickups, the list goes on. The detail in the little things really shines when you’re looking for it. I’d give this game a 9.5/10. My only complaints are the lack of DLC, the lack of clothing options, and my biggest gripe is the way NPCs and AI can sometimes behave. If I accidentally ride my horse too close to the market and his ears enter the “market area” people are suddenly running to tell the cops, and the police come running at me trying to murder me for disturbing the peace. The AI is too touchy. If I run my horse into a dog on accident, the same thing happens. However relative to EVERYTHING else that R* got SOOO RIGHT, this is a relatively minor issue. Classic game, it’s still worth $60 even today, I’ve never even played RDR Online, just talking the single player campaign!
