Judy is a fantastic historical horror film about Hollywood royalty, that's right I said horror film. I have nothing but good things to say about this film. Renee Zellweger's performance encapsulates Judy Garland without being an exact copy which is what masterclass acting is. I felt like I was being punched in the gut during the run of almost the entire film and especially during it's flashbacks. Every time Judy went on stage to perform to yet another crowd I felt the anxiety and nerves in my stomach because I just wanted her to do well, to succeed. To show them all she could do it. I give all credit to Renee and filmmakers for being able to bring those emotions out of me.
That's how honest and fragile Renee's version of Judy is, you just want to see her make it and survive because she didn't deserve any of the evil that was forced upon her as a kid and especially her tragic ending. It also doesn't hurt that Renee Zellweger didn't have a choice but to sing live during every take which added another layer to the raw emotion Judy would give on stage as she performed.
Do yourself a favor and watch this film and tell everyone you know about it. You won't regret seeing such a both technically and emotionally stunning film. 9/10.
