Going on my third time of watching this show, I have to say that I absolutely love it. As many other reviewers have noted, the humanity of this show is what drove it for five seasons.
Real people dealing with real problems facing our country and that of our human experience. Some people don't like the preachiness or politics of specific episodes and they have that right. That being said, however, it does not change the fact that our world—our lives are a kaleidoscope of this messy thing called life.
For all its ups and downs, the road that New Amsterdam fundamentally draws upon is that of how can we help one another as human beings. How can we vulnerable? How can be honest? How can we give back while still remembering to fill our own cup? How can we do our jobs while still being in service to our fellow humans?
New Amsterdam always keeps this at the core, starting with Max's most important tenet, "How Can I Help?"
