I just finished watching Election, and I have to say — I really didn’t like Mr. McAllister. To me, he’s the real villain of the story. He pretends to be a good teacher, but in reality, he’s selfish, jealous, and a hypocrite. Everything bad that happens in the movie is mostly because of him.
Another terrible character is Dave, the teacher who manipulated and took advantage of Tracy Flick. Tracy was just a teenager, and he made her feel special only to use her. That part made me feel really angry and sad for her.
Tracy is a very ambitious girl who worked so hard to win the school election. She took it seriously and did her best, and honestly, she deserved to win. But instead of encouraging her, Mr. McAllister hated her just because she was ambitious and confident — something he clearly couldn’t handle. He even tried to ruin the election by throwing away the votes, which is completely unfair and unprofessional. If I were a teacher, I would never do what he did.
I also felt really bad for Paul, the sweet and kind student who was used by McAllister to try and stop Tracy. When Paul found out Tracy won and he didn’t, he looked so sad — it wasn’t fair to him either.
Tammy is one of my favorite characters. She’s honest, emotional, and funny. All she wanted was to be with Lisa, but Lisa played with both Tammy and Paul. I’m really happy Tammy found a new girlfriend in the end — she deserved someone who loved her back.
As for Tracy, I’m glad she got the dream job she wanted in the future. Even though she didn’t have many friends and had to deal with so much hate as a teenager, she still kept going and achieved her goals. That made me feel proud of her.
Meanwhile, Mr. McAllister lost everything — his job, his marriage, his reputation. He was so obsessed with ruining Tracy that he ended up destroying his own life. That last scene where he throws something at the car Tracy is in... it just shows how bitter and pathetic he became.
Also, I have to mention — the election counter boys were so cute! I loved the moment when one of them gave Tracy a thumbs up. It was such a sweet little scene.
In conclusion, Election is a dark, clever movie that shows how adults can be more childish than teenagers. Tracy wasn’t perfect, but she was just a kid trying to do her best. Mr. McAllister, on the other hand, was the real monster.
