The movie is an alternate start to the pokemon series, it has its similarities with the show but it changed so much. Anyone new to the Pokemon franchise would believe that Misty and Brock weren't Ashes first official friends and that Pokemon like Lucario, Entei, Suicune, and Raikou have always been around. In my opinion, what made Pokemon, as a whole, so great and the older movies so exciting, was watching the events unfold the way they did. As the show went on, new Pokemon were introduced to Ash and his friends with unique stories that made you excited to keep watching. Watching this film will ruin that entire lore that the show gives you. However, as a stand alone movie, this film is filled with heart-warming scenes and great action. The Charmander story was a great addition to this movie and any Pikachu fans will have something great to look forward to.
