Oh how is wish this was a great movie. Even a good one. I’ll call it mildly entertaining, but at times painful to watch. I wanted my daughter to have another female superhero to cheer for like she did with the fantastic Wonder Woman. Nope. What could have been Marvel’s WW is instead close to its Green Lantern. The difference? Ryan Reynolds (although miscast there) could act. I don’t see how Brie Larson won an Oscar. Her performance here is as wooden as a doorframe. Good lord would it hurt her to show emotion instead of delivering every line like she’s reading off the page for the first time? And her best friend (so forgettable-even to her character in the movie- I can’t remember her name nor will I look it up) is just as bad. One note- stare with mouth open. You’re supposed to feel something when they reunite but you don’t. They’re that bad. Sam Jackson tries, but the script stinks and the direction is just bad for everyone. And I miss the days where they just use makeup for making characters younger looking. The CGI de-aging stinks especially on Agent Coulson. This could have been a great movie, but Larson ruins it. Adding a forced smirk after every line doesn’t make you lovably arrogant, confident or anything other than someone who can’t display emotion. I mean when my 8 year old daughter isn’t excited because she sees the bar scene where she talks with Fury (horrible acting and writing examples) and tells me it looks stupid, that should tell you something. So many possibilities with this great character and such a let down. Hopefully she figures it out in Endgame. And I’m not a sexist for saying this, she’s just that bad in this movie and the writing/lack of character development is too. You just don’t care about any. And spoiler...Fury losing his eye like that?!? Stupid beyond anything. Action is fine, but a huge disappointment overall. Bottom 3 of the Marvel movies and Clooney was less miscast as Batman than Larson as Carol Danvers. Never thought I’d say that. Maybe acting lessons and actually establishing a back story with good supporting characters so there’d be emotional impact would have helped. Thank God there are several female heroes in the MCU that exist even Peggy Carter’s neice Agent 13 who’s been barely there for my daughter to cheer for.
