I tried an oil free whole food plant based diet from Sep 2018 to the present and have gathered enough data on my own body to realize that cholesterol levels can indeed be managed in spite of my family history. Loss of belly fat and no more constipation issues were some of the bonuses. Whilst we can get all our nutrition (except vit B12) from a plant based diet, I found it was necessary to plan meals to ensure there is adequate intakes of iron, zinc, iodine, fortified vit B12, etc.
Try out a whole food plant based diet with minimal oil on yourself. Eat super clean and then monitor blood profile every month for 3 months and if my experience was anything to go by, then u will probably be amazed by the improvements. Then add back other controversial stuff one by one and monitor the results and see how your body handles it. Our bodies are all different and tolerate things differently according to our diets, lifestyles, genetic makeup, etc. Thus the confusion and exacerbated by selective reporting by vested interest groups.
So far I hv found it to be sustainable as a long term eating plan but can be really challenging depending on where you live or travel to as the availability of such clean foods when eating out are yet to be widely available. So it's almost imperative to be armed with some cooking skills to ensure you can cook fast, nutritious yet delicious meals.
