This is a bit difficult to get started with, especially if you are not of the Jewish persuasion, but it is worth plowing forward. There are two layers to the novel: An engaging How-they-done-it caper, and a provocative social commentary. The latter is particularly timely in light of this year’s election tactics. McBride weaves together the prejudices and victimizations of several vastly different communities, exploring how preconceived biases and open-hearted acceptance can shape a community and the world. In the end, it is hopeful and inspiring.
