I put this book down after the first few chapters because it offers one of the worst depictions of doctor-patient relationships I’ve ever encountered. It makes "Grey's Anatomy" look reputable by comparison. The opening summary—“Between her drug-addicted patients and battling wits with her hot surgeon, blah blah blah”—is particularly troubling. It’s shocking to me that a writer like Frieda would characterize medical patients at a general hospital as drug addicts, especially since it's not a harm reduction clinic but one that serves patients of all ages. There are well-documented discrepancies in medical evaluations and stereotypes regarding racial groups, so it is especially disappointing to see a white author reinforcing such negative portrayals. While I recognize that this book may be a medium-quality, generic romantic comedy, the medical expertise depicted should reflect the challenges within our failing healthcare system rather than placing blame on patients of any age.
