I had to struggle to give this movie a 2 out of 5 stars. I think I made myself give it a 2 because I love Denzel Washington, Jeffrey Wright, and Spike Lee, not to mention that wonderful actress that played Denzel‘s wife from Godfather of Harlem, where she is brilliant by the way. However, the script was lacking, the acting was not good, considering the caliber of actors that were in this movie. This movie was not becoming of a Denzel Washington movie and what we come to expect from him. Not his fault, though, I believe the writing was just poor in general, and the movie wasn’t shot very well either, sorry Spike. I looked forward to this movie, and had high hopes for it, so it gives me great pain that it didn’t live up to the expectations that I had for it. I’m an African-American, and even for me, there were too many woke tropes, and not so subliminal messages throughout the film regarding the treatment of blacks in America. All in all though, I hope it does well and that others enjoy it more than I did. From what I see from the other reviews, it looks like others enjoyed it, although, I don’t see how people could rate this above 3 stars.
