My wife and I loved this series. The characters at the Hotel and the guests were all quirky and extremely well played. I would place this genre as a "black comedy" which we personally like. There used to be a UK series called "Boys from the blackstuff" written by Liverpool author Alan Bleasdale which was set in Thatcher era Britain and was a dark but comedic reflection of the era. I think White Lotus is pretty similar in many ways. Those who like black humour will love it and the rest will not get it. We loved it!
