I don’t usually write movie reviews and I try to give films the benefit of the doubt, but this one? The plot was all over the place. From the cringey slow-motion arrow shots hitting zombies, all the way to the ending where a group of people suddenly act like they’re the Avengers seriously, what was that?
If you haven’t seen the first two movies, I can kind of see how someone might find this a bit more enjoyable. But honestly, even without that context, the story still comes off as completely ridiculous. You’re telling me Spike (the boy) managed to survive on his own for 28 days? As if he wasn’t being saved by someone in every other scene?
Then there’s the mom. So she has cancer… and is so out of it that she decides to walk up to a pregnant zombie to help it give birth? Why didn’t her son stop her? Why was he suddenly miles away when just a second before he was only a couple feet away from her? The scene cuts were so inconsistent it felt like teleportation was involved.
She was out of it the entire movie but after the doctor diagnosed her, she acts completely normal and shrugs it off with a casual “I thought so,” Her son risked everything for no reason. She didn’t say anything and puts her son in danger just because she didn’t want to have that conversation with him?
At times, I thought this movie had some strong cinematography and emotional moments but then the next scene would just make me roll my eyes. At first, I thought this movie was okay at best but the more I thought about it the more confused I got.
I’ll say this, whoever made the trailer deserves a raise. They did an amazing job selling this as something way better than it actually is. Honestly, just watch the trailer. That’s the best part of this movie. Don’t waste your money on the full thing.
