Let’s start with the good. The story lines they are introducing have some amazing potential. I can see where they might be going and I think it will be really interesting. The updated theme is spectacular. They kept all the good but put a new shine and detail on it. The fight scenes are great. I’m a little perturbed that cyclops doesn’t seem to have his hand trigger for his visor but we can let that pass. Please stop having his energy punctuate what he’s saying though. Once in a while is fine but this happens way too often. The voice acting is okay. A lot of the characters sound like they are trying to emulate what they sounded like in the original series and failing at it. I think I’d have preferred new voice actors rather than this failed attempt. This is a personal pet peeve so don’t worry about it but they butcher the pronunciation of Roberto Decosta’s name. Roll your rs. I hate the new magneto design. That was the worst costume he’s ever worn and they faithfully reproduced it. Why? What is up with his face too. The angles are so sharp. All the little attempts to copy previous moments of catchy come backs feel forced and out of place. The dialogue and exposition are a bit clunky at times. It’s like they wanted to capture the organic campiness that the previous show had and failed in the execution. This can feel a bit artificial. There are a few plot points that don’t make sense with the previously established continuity. We are given no explanation for how or why bishop is here and it doesn’t track with the way the show has previously shown time travel to work. I can see where they are drawing from in the source material but the contradiction with the previously established continuity is jarring and lazy. They could have slightly changed some things to make these plot points make sense without sacrificing anything. So, overall, not bad but not great. I don’t think this will have the replay value that the original series had. But there’s a lot of potential here. Let’s see where it goes.
